Instrumentation

Instrumentation

The instrumental suite of the PEGASUS mobile platform is dedicated to the characterization of atmospheric composition (aerosols and trace gases), and in particular to the study of the properties of atmospheric aerosols that determine their direct and indirect effects on the radiation budget. PEGASUS is therefore equipped with its own instruments, which are systematically deployed during field campaigns (core instrumentation), as well as with instruments from the MEREIA team and, more broadly, from LISA, which are made available depending on the scientific objectives of each campaign (optional instrumentation).

Aerosol sampling

Wind-oriented high-volume isocinetic inlets (450 L min-1) with 50% particle transmission efficiency at 40 µm in diameter (optimal for marine and desert regions)

Low-volume certified isocinetic sampling lines (16 L min-1 and 38 L min-1) , various cut-off (PM2.5 and PM10)

Gas phase sampling

Low-volume (16 L/min) teflon-coated sampling lines to minimise reactivity losses of trace compounds at surfaces and through permeation
